Negotiations regarding South Korea’s costs of defense have commenced between South Korea and the US. Reportedly, Washington asked Seoul to pay 5 billion dollars a year which creates a rather big gap from the roughly 900 million that Seoul currently pays for the existing deal that will expire at the end of the year. President Trump has made it clear according to a state department spokesperson that the American allies should contribute more since the cost of maintaining the US assets and deployments is rather high.
