Artillery shells were fired from the Changrin Islet defense detachment at the very southwestern point of North Korean territory while Kim Jong-un visited said detachment and he ordered the soldiers there to fire the shells in order to raise their combat efficiency through a “war-like” drill, as reported by the North Korean state media. S.Korea’s defense ministry said that the firing of the artillery near the inter-Korean border violates the Pyeongyang Declaration that was signed by both the North and the South last September.
