The first launch of the GQM-163A Coyote Supersonic Sea Skimming Target was conducted from the NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia by the U.S. Navy as a part of the MSLEX fleet missile exercise. The launch of two GQM-163A targets was made feasible thanks to the work of the Navy’s aerial targets program office (PMA-208) with multiple stakeholders and its main purpose was to demonstrate the operational capability and the completion of the WFF site activation for an East Coast supersonic target capability in support of a fleet missile exercise (MSLEX) training.
