The Arms Control Center

Arms Control Center 250px The Arms Control Center was established in 2004 as an international non-profit research center dedicated to arms control, homeland security, counterterrorism, international security, private security and military defenses. Its Founder and Director is Professor Dr. Theodore Liolios (Professor and Divisional Director of the Hellenic Army Military Academy), who has taught thousands of Military Officers (Army Military Academy, War College, Command and Staff College, Merchant Marine Academy etc). The Arms Control Center’s members constitute a fine network of academics, weapons scientists, security experts and officers, Medical Doctors, Psychologists, Army Veterans etc (see details in the Greek website of the Arms Control Center). Since its foundation, the Arms Control Center has appeared many times in the Greek Media informing and educating the public about homeland and international security issues. The Arms Control Center’s Greek website and the International Youtube Channel of the Center have become prominent sources of relevant information in Greece, and all around the world boasting up to 100.000 visitors per month.
The Arms Control Center’s main objectives are to:

  • …conduct scientific research in the fields of arms control, homeland security, counterterrorism, private security, military science and all aspects of defense and international security.
  • …constantly monitor the security environment all around the world informing the citizens and the international community about possible threats and ways of avoiding them.
  • …supervise, guide and coordinate the finest network of private security services all around the world that can guarantee the safety and security of people, assets and the environment.
  • …provide security consulting, risk assessment and all relevant services to companies and industries around the world which invest or wish to invest their assets at a national or international level so as to avoid unnecessary risks and hazards.
  • …maintain a high-quality think tank of the best security scientists, former military officers,  academics and experts who can conduct research for and provide consultation to all interested bodies
  • …evaluate, select and recruit the best arms control, defense and security experts in order to create a workforce that can conduct research in collaboration with other international centers.
  • …provide citizens, politicians, decision-makers, scholars, and the press with accurate and timely information on nuclear, chemical, biological, and all unconventional and conventional weapons in order to reduce the dangers they pose.
  • …provide legal support and advice to all individuals and companies about issues related to arms control, homeland security, terrorism and private security.
  • …provide the entire world with a source of information on homeland security, military science, arms control and international security issues.
  • …provide support to victims of war and refugees.

The Arms Control Center holds frequent press briefings on major arms control developments, providing commentary and analysis on a broad spectrum of issues for journalists and scholars.
The Arms Control Center covers numerous peace and security issues affected by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction including international nonproliferation programs, missile defenses, failed and post-conflict states and irresponsible defense spending.
The non-commercial academic nature of the Arms Control Center ensures that all the proceeds from membership subscriptions, donations and subsidies will be used to support the scientific research of the center (in the form of fellowships and scientific equipment), its publications (journal, proceeding etc) as well as the education of young scientists (in the form of internships) who wish to specialize in scientific aspects of military science, arms control and international security subjects.
The Arms Control Center’s homepage can also be considered a library which provides information on various arms control, defense and security topics. Most of that information has been adopted from some hot documents and from many other internet scientific references.

The Greek website of the Arms Control Center has a lot of information about the Greek branch of the Arms Control Center (EKEO in Greek). For example, there are numerous letters and documents from famous Greek dignitaries providing testimony on the excellent scientific work of the Arms Control Center. The Archbishop, Ministers, Members of the Greek Parliament, Chiefs of the General Staff, Army Generals, University Professors,  in their letters to Prof. Dr. Theodore Liolios applaud and recognize the advances of the Arms Control Center in the field of homeland security, arms control,  international security and public safety.
