In Greece there are thousands of men in the armed forces reserves who have served in the Special Forces during their service (conscription). After their discharge they retain the pride and the diginity of their force trying to make their presence felt in many was in Greece. The Hellenic Arms Control Center has founded the Hellenic Civil Guard aiming mainly at such groups of people who need to play a public role in Homeland Security but they are not organized properly in the form of a Public Order and Homeland Security Force. The large majority consists of brave, patriotic and well-trained individuals willing to fight for honor and their country. HACC’s Director has taught many of their officers in the Army Academy and Colleges of Greece and often advocates the value of a Non-Profit Public Force of Public Order which would consist of members of the Armed Forces Reserves. In the video (October 2011) above a group of Special Forces Reservists is marching through the streets of Athens in order to lay a wreath at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier.

The Riot Police tried to prevent them but the special forces reservists finally managed to lay the wreath bypassing the Police. It seems the all these people want to protest against the measures that, according to them, weakens the prestige and strength of the armed forces. HACC believes that such patriotic groups need to find resort to the Hellenic Civil Guard where they will serve their fellow citizens in an orderly and disciplined way otherwise some of the reservists may end up in the arms of far-right extremists with unpredictable consequences. Here is the video that shows their wreath-laying efforts against the Riot Police
