Tension has again risen recently in the eastern Mediterranean between Greece and Turkey over oil and gas drilling rights. The focal point is the Greek island of Castellorizo, which is far from the rest of Greece but only three kilometres from the Turkish town of Kas. The tiny island is extremely vulnerable, yet, when I made this film in 1996, the local people and their Turkish neighbours were far more friendly towards each other than the politicians in Athens and Ankara.
