It came as no surprise that the former Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS) was appointed interim Minister of Defense in Greece. His reputation as an “national intelligence expert” competes with his reputation as the most successful HAGS Chief of the last decades. The Leader of the Socialist Party agreed with the Leader of the right-wing party that he would be the most appropriate interim Minister for the one-month pre-election period (according to the Greek constitution there must be an interim government which will pave the way to the final parliamentary elections). The President of the Greek Republic reportedly supported Gen. Fragos’s appointment knowing his abilities and vast strategic knowledge. The new (interim) Minister of Defense declared his determination to continue the successful work of his predecessor in the Ministry of Defense. The Hellenic Arms Control Center (HACC) has long been an advocate of the new Minister due to his unique achievements both as a General and as an academic. HACC expresses its warmest congratulations to the new Minister of Defense. The video shows the Gen. Frangoulis Frangos assuming his new duties in the Ministry as his predecessor Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos steps out.
